The Ebonyi State Government has announced plans to acquire an aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen air transportation and support the commencement of operations at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Abakaliki.
The state government is also targeting a specific date for the official launch of the airport as it intensifies preparations to make the facility operational.
The development was disclosed by the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, who said the state was taking steps to ensure that the airport becomes fully functional and contributes to the state’s economic development.
The proposed aircraft acquisition is expected to support the state’s aviation operations and improve connectivity between Ebonyi and other parts of Nigeria.
The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, located in Ebonyi’s capital, Abakaliki, has been a major infrastructure project of successive state administrations, with the current government seeking to complete outstanding works and commence commercial operations.
The airport is named after the late Senator Chuba Okadigbo, a former President of the Nigerian Senate and prominent political figure from Ebonyi State.
