Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has publicly celebrated the engagement of his daughter, Adaeze Oputa, to her female partner.

Charly Boy shared a video from the engagement on Instagram on Thursday, September 17, accompanying it with a message expressing his happiness and asking his followers to extend their good wishes to the couple.

In the post, the veteran entertainer referred to the pair as his “beautiful Princess and her Husband” and wrote: “Folks, wish dem well for me.”

Adaeze also confirmed the engagement through her Instagram account, sharing a photograph with her partner and announcing, “WE’RE ENGAGED!”

She used the hashtag #mrsandmrs and expressed excitement about the future they intend to build together, speaking of love, laughter, growth and shared memories.

The announcement has attracted considerable attention online, with social media users expressing differing views about the engagement and Charly Boy’s public response.

The entertainer has maintained a prominent public profile in Nigeria for decades, earning a reputation for his unconventional style and outspoken views on social and cultural issues. His decision to publicly celebrate his daughter’s engagement has consequently generated further discussion around his family and personal views.

The development also comes within Nigeria’s existing legal and social environment concerning same-sex relationships. The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013 prohibits same-sex marriages and provides penalties for certain related conduct. The engagement announcement, however, is a personal development shared by Adaeze and her partner, and there is no indication from the reports that a marriage has taken place.
