Iran has warned Germany that its military bases and facilities across the Middle East could be considered “legitimate targets” if Berlin openly participates in military operations against Tehran, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.

The warning, reported on Sunday, October 25, comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Western countries over the possibility of renewed military confrontation.

According to reports, the warning was linked to what Tehran described as increased anti-Iranian activities by Germany. Iranian officials also called on Berlin to stop what they characterised as harassment of Iranian nationals living in Germany.

The latest development follows a series of diplomatic tensions between the two countries, including a German court’s convictions of two men accused of planning attacks and conducting surveillance targeting Jewish and Israeli-linked figures in Germany. German authorities have linked the case to suspected Iranian intelligence activity.

Iran and Germany’s flag

Iran has repeatedly warned that countries allowing their military facilities, equipment or territory to be used in attacks against it could face retaliation. In August, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran reserved the right to respond against facilities used to launch military operations against the country.

The warning comes as concerns grow over the possibility of renewed conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. A report by Anadolu Agency on October 21 said an Iranian security official believed another US-Israeli attack was likely, although this reflected Tehran’s assessment rather than confirmation that an attack was imminent.

Claims that Iran has conducted multiple ballistic missile tests in recent weeks require further independent verification. Such reports, on their own, do not establish that a new war is inevitable.

Germany has not been confirmed as having joined a military operation against Iran. The warning remains conditional on Berlin openly participating in military action, and it does not mean German facilities are currently under attack.

The latest statement highlights the risk that a wider conflict could involve additional countries and military installations beyond Iran’s immediate neighbours.
