Iran has said the outcome of Israel’s parliamentary election will make no difference to Tehran’s position towards the country, as Israelis prepare to vote amid heightened regional tensions.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks on Monday, October 26, during a weekly press briefing, a day before Israel’s legislative election.

“It makes no difference to us who, in these elections, takes the helm of a regime that has brought nothing but violence and massacres to our region,” Baghaei said, according to reports by Agence France-Presse.

The comments came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a closely contested election, with security and the conflict involving Iran among the central issues in the campaign.

Baghaei also dismissed Netanyahu’s recent statements about efforts to overthrow Iran’s government, describing them as “empty threats” and a sign of desperation. Netanyahu had said he instructed Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, and the Israel Defense Forces to pursue the removal of Iran’s leadership.

The exchange reflects continuing hostility between the two countries following the war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran in late February. Both sides have issued warnings about possible renewed military action, raising concerns over further escalation across the region.

Netanyahu has argued that Iran poses a continuing security threat to Israel, while Tehran has accused Israel of contributing to regional instability and threatening its sovereignty. The claims reflect the positions of the respective governments and remain part of an ongoing confrontation.

The election is expected to shape Israel’s domestic political direction, but Iran’s statement indicates that Tehran does not expect a change in leadership alone to alter its broader approach to Israel.

The latest remarks come as the international community watches for signs of whether the election will affect prospects for renewed conflict or diplomatic engagement.
