Nigerian-focused fintech company OPay Limited has officially commenced trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), raising approximately $304 million through its initial public offering (IPO) at $19 per American Depositary Share (ADS).
The company began trading on Friday, October 30, 2026, under the ticker symbol OPAY, following the pricing of its shares at the lower end of the proposed $19 to $21 range. The offering values OPay at approximately $4 billion, marking a significant milestone for the digital financial services company and Nigeria’s fintech industry.
According to the company’s announcement, OPay sold 16 million ADSs at $19 each, generating gross proceeds of approximately $304 million before underwriting discounts and other offering expenses. Each ADS represents 10 ordinary shares of the company.
OPay also granted its underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 2.4 million ADSs to cover over-allotments, which could increase the size of the offering if fully exercised. The IPO is expected to close on November 2, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
The listing was marked by an opening bell ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange, attended by OPay executives and other stakeholders. The company’s co-chief executive officer, Lars Boilesen, described the development as a significant moment for the business and Nigeria, where OPay began operations in 2018.
Boilesen said the company had grown into a digital financial platform serving more than 50 million users across Nigeria, Egypt, Pakistan and Indonesia. He added that OPay would continue using technology to expand access to financial services and improve the experience of consumers and businesses in emerging markets.
Founded in 2018, OPay provides services including digital payments, money transfers, savings, credit facilities and merchant solutions. Its platform has become a major part of Nigeria’s digital financial ecosystem, where mobile-based transactions and electronic payment services have expanded significantly.
The IPO also highlights growing international investor interest in financial technology businesses operating in emerging markets. OPay’s public listing comes as Nigeria’s digital payments sector continues to attract competition and investment, including the recent launch of Google Wallet and Google Pay in the country. TheDailyNewsHub previously reported on Google Wallet’s introduction in Nigeria and the banks supporting its tap-to-pay services.
SoftBank-backed OPay previously raised $400 million in a 2021 funding round that valued the company at approximately $2 billion. According to its IPO disclosures, entities affiliated with SoftBank held a combined 6.6 per cent stake in the company before the public offering. Its latest valuation of approximately $4 billion represents a substantial increase from the valuation recorded during that earlier funding round.
The company joins a growing number of businesses seeking access to international capital markets to finance expansion and broaden their investor base. In Nigeria, the Dangote Refinery’s recent IPO, which attracted applications from 120 countries, has also drawn attention to the growing interest in investment opportunities linked to major African businesses.
OPay’s NYSE debut gives international investors an opportunity to gain exposure to a financial technology business with significant operations in Nigeria and other emerging markets. It also places the company under the reporting, disclosure and governance requirements applicable to publicly listed companies in the United States.
The listing represents an important development for Nigeria’s fintech sector, demonstrating the ability of a company that began its operations in the country to attract international capital and enter one of the world’s major stock markets. Its performance as a publicly traded company will now be closely watched by investors, industry stakeholders and other African technology businesses considering international listings.
