US President Donald Trump has become the subject of widespread online ridicule following the Republican Party’s losses in the November 3, 2026, midterm elections, with thousands of social media users sharing memes, edited photographs and AI-generated videos mocking the electoral setback.

The online reaction followed major Democratic victories that handed the party control of both chambers of Congress, marking a significant political setback for Trump’s administration.

One of the most widely circulated images showed four men carrying a sleeping Trump and dumping him into a rubbish bin labelled “HAZARDOUS WASTE”. The image was shared by the official account of the Iranian Embassy in India, accompanied by the caption: “The U.S. midterm elections.”

The image attracted widespread attention, with social media users using it to ridicule the Republican defeat and celebrate the Democrats’ electoral gains.

Other posts described the outcome as a “Blue Tsunami”, suggesting that the scale of Democratic victories went beyond an ordinary electoral swing.

One widely shared comment read: “That was not a Blue Wave, that is a Blue TSUNAMI.”

Some users also turned Trump’s immigration policies into jokes, with one post suggesting that America was attempting to “deport Trump’s majority” following the Republican losses.

Several memes featured edited images of the president looking disappointed, while others used scenes from popular television programmes and films to portray the political consequences of the election.

The online mockery extended beyond ordinary social media users. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk also made a sarcastic comment about the Republican defeat, joking that his supposed “election-interfering space lasers” had failed to work.

TheDailyNewsHub previously reported on Elon Musk’s reaction to the Republican Party’s midterm election losses.

Trump, who was not personally on the ballot, acknowledged that the war involving Iran and rising fuel prices had contributed to his party’s poor performance. He also congratulated Democrats, saying they had “done a good job”.

Despite the online celebrations and political criticism, the midterm results do not remove Trump from office. He remains President, but Democratic control of Congress is expected to increase scrutiny of his administration and make it more difficult to advance parts of his legislative agenda.

The flood of memes illustrates how social media has become an important platform for political commentary, satire and public reactions to major electoral developments.
