Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid returned to winning ways with a convincing 4–1 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday.
The France captain opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Álvaro Carreras was brought down inside the area. Three minutes later, Carreras doubled Madrid’s advantage after combining with Mbappé.
Jude Bellingham added a third in the 35th minute, finishing a move created by Vinícius Júnior as Real Madrid took a commanding 3–0 lead into half-time.
Rayo responded early in the second half when Sergio Camello pulled one back in the 51st minute. The visitors subsequently created further opportunities as Madrid’s defence came under pressure, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made important saves to prevent Rayo from reducing the deficit further.
Real Madrid eventually put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time. Arda Güler played Mbappé through, and the forward produced a precise finish across goal to complete his brace.
The second goal took Mbappé’s tally to seven goals in six appearances this season, according to Real Madrid. It was also Madrid’s fourth consecutive home victory at the Bernabéu.
The victory moved Real Madrid onto 12 points, level with Barcelona at the top of LaLiga ahead of Barcelona’s match against Levante on Sunday. Rayo, meanwhile, remained 15th with four points.
The result also provided a positive response for José Mourinho’s side following their previous league defeat by Real Betis.
Real Madrid will next travel to face Elche on Tuesday, while Rayo Vallecano are scheduled to host Espanyol.
The victory underlined Mbappé’s growing influence at the Bernabéu, with the forward once again decisive as Madrid maintained their strong start to the LaLiga campaign.
