Evangelist Ebuka Obi has reportedly advised a woman seeking what she described as a marital breakthrough to lose weight, telling her that her future husband prefers slim women.

The remark has generated reactions online after a video of the interaction was shared by Instablog9ja on X.

In the video, Obi is heard addressing the woman about her desire to get married and reportedly telling her that her future husband would prefer a slim woman. He subsequently advised her to work on losing weight.

The comments have sparked debate on social media, with some users questioning the basis for linking a person’s chances of marriage to their body size, while others viewed the advice as a personal or spiritual counselling matter.

Obi is known for his ministry and public prayer and counselling sessions, where people frequently seek prayers and guidance over issues including marriage, family, health and finances.

However, the statement about the woman’s future husband is a personal claim attributed to Obi and cannot independently be established as a factual prediction about the identity or preferences of a future spouse.

Similarly, there is no evidence that being slim is a universal requirement for finding a spouse or achieving a successful marriage. People’s physical preferences vary, while relationships and marriage involve numerous factors beyond body size.

The viral clip has nevertheless renewed discussion about the increasingly public role of religious figures in advising individuals about relationships, appearance and personal decisions.

The remarks attributed to Evangelist Ebuka Obi should therefore be understood as his advice to the woman, rather than as an independently verified prediction about her future marriage.
