The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Benue State Chapter has accused Mr. Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, of staging a “desperate political performance” instead of defending the record of his administration.
In a statement signed by State Secretary, Comrd Dan Nyikwagh on 13th September, 2026, the PDP said what Benue people witnessed was “not a government spokesman defending the record of his administration. It was a desperate political actor auditioning for relevance before a governor whose approval he is desperately seeking.”
The PDP alleged that in the Alia administration, “promotion appears to depend less on competence and more on how viciously one attacks Chief Samuel Ortom and Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.”
“Kula merely read from the script handed to him. His outburst had nothing to do with governance and everything to do with survival. Unable to distinguish himself through performance, he has chosen insults as a career strategy,” the statement said.
The party accused Kula of political hypocrisy, recalling that he once described Chief Aondoakaa, SAN as “one of the finest minds Benue has produced” and urged Benue people to trust him with their future.
“Today, for the sake of political convenience and personal ambition, he pretends those statements never existed,” PDP stated.
The PDP defended the Ortom-Aondoakaa partnership, describing Kula’s claim that it was “the worst thing that could happen to Benue” as “ridiculous and dishonest.”
The party said Chief Samuel Ortom presided over one of the most transparent administrations and “voluntarily submitted himself to scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies.”
It challenged Governor Alia to “confidently make the same pledge today” and asked why the CPS was attacking opponents instead of addressing “transparency, accountability and the management of the state’s enormous resources.”
On godfatherism, PDP said Ortom “has consistently maintained that destiny is determined by God, not by political patrons, adding that those who believe in “control and dependency naturally struggle to understand relationships built on mutual respect.”
The PDP said Kula’s attempt to compare Ortom with his former Nasarawa counterpart was deliberately incomplete.
If comparisons are to be made, let him compare the records of Governor Abdullahi Sule and Governor Hyacinth Alia. Let him compare infrastructure, rural development, security, investment attraction, local government administration,” the party said.
On the recent visit of Peter Obi to Benue IDPs, PDP said making a vehicle to him was “basic decency” and questioned why the state government failed to extend similar courtesy. It added that a genuine IDP visit “would have exposed realities that contradict the government’s repeated claims that displacement has largely ended.”
The PDP noted the irony of the press conference coming amid “deadly attacks in Ayilamo, Logo LGA” where several people including security personnel lost their lives.
It accused the Alia administration of elevating “propaganda into a governing philosophy” while Benue people are told “insecurity is under control local government autonomy is flourishing displaced persons have returned home” even as the realities differ.
The party also faulted the “gap between resources and results,” saying never in recent history has a Benue government enjoyed the current level of federal allocations “yet the visible impact remains disappointingly limited.”
PDP said Governor Alia appears “increasingly obsessed with campaigning against his opponents instead of governing for the people,” and that the attacks on Aondoakaa “speak volumes about the growing anxiety within government circles ahead of 2027.”
“The PDP will not be distracted by political theatrics. Benue people are watching. They can distinguish propaganda from performance, noise from leadership, and insults from solutions,” Nyikwagh concluded.
