The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has said monitoring of 62 people identified as contacts of the country’s confirmed Ebola case is expected to be completed by November 13, 2026.
The agency disclosed this in its latest Ebola Disease Situation Report, noting that the contacts were scheduled to complete their monitoring at different times between October 31 and November 13.
The NCDC said contact tracing and monitoring were still ongoing, adding that additional contact tracers had been mapped and trained to strengthen surveillance.
The agency also reported that 18 samples had been tested, with one positive result linked to the confirmed case and 17 negative results. The negative samples included 15 from identified contacts and two from suspected cases.
Nigeria confirmed an imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease on October 20, involving a woman who had travelled from Uganda. She was subsequently evacuated to Switzerland for further medical treatment.
The latest update follows concerns over two suspected cases identified in Adamawa State. However, the NCDC subsequently confirmed that both individuals tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing, leaving the Abuja case as Nigeria’s only laboratory-confirmed infection.
The agency said it would continue strengthening surveillance, laboratory testing and preparedness in high-risk states while working with relevant partners to prevent further transmission.
The NCDC has also urged Nigerians to cooperate with public health officials and rely on verified information as the country continues its Ebola response.
