Nigerian entertainer Carter Efe defeated fellow content creator Speed Darlington in a celebrity boxing contest, while reality television star Phyna recorded a knockout victory over Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing at the ‘Chaos in the Ring’ Independence Edition in Lagos.
The event, organised by Balmoral Promotions, was held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday, October 1, with some reports and coverage extending into Friday, October 2.
Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, secured victory over Speed Darlington, also known as Darlington Okoye, after the referee stopped their scheduled four-round contest. The result was reported as a technical knockout, bringing the bout to an end before the final bell.
The contest attracted attention because of the public exchanges between the two entertainers in the build-up to the fight. Their rivalry had played out on social media, where both men traded comments ahead of their meeting in the ring.
Carter Efe’s victory adds to his record in the celebrity boxing series. He previously defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision at an event held on May 1, 2026.
In the night’s other headline celebrity contest, Phyna defeated Nkechi Blessing Sunday by knockout in the fourth and final round of their scheduled four-round bout. The victory earned Phyna a ₦50 million cash prize, a championship belt and a new car. The result was another major moment in Balmoral’s celebrity boxing series, following Phyna’s ₦50 million victory over Nkechi Blessing, as previously reported by TheDailyNewsHub.
Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, was awarded a ₦50 million cash prize, a championship belt and a new car following the victory. The result marked a notable moment in Balmoral’s celebrity boxing series, with Phyna emerging as the winner of its female celebrity contest.
The victory followed weeks of public exchanges between the two women. Their disagreement had drawn attention after comments surrounding a proposed movie collaboration and acting role, with the dispute eventually becoming part of the build-up to the boxing contest.
Following her win, Phyna called out actress Etinosa Idemudia for a possible future fight. Etinosa subsequently indicated that she was willing to accept the challenge, although no date or formal details for another bout had been announced.
The result also adds to Phyna’s public profile since winning the seventh season of the Big Brother Naija reality television show in 2022. She later referenced the anniversary of her reality-show victory in a social media post on October 2.
The full results of the event included another major contest involving Ghanaian-born boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah, who defeated Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision to win the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.
The celebrity bouts formed part of Balmoral Promotions’ Independence Edition programme, which brought together entertainers and professional fighters before a live audience in Lagos.
The outcomes have generated further discussion among fans of the entertainers, particularly following the high-profile clashes involving Carter Efe, Speed Darlington, Phyna and Nkechi Blessing.
