The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has alerted the public to a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada.
In a statement, the Service said the fake account was created to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The NCS clarified that the only authentic Facebook account of the National Public Relations Officer is the verified account bearing the blue verification badge (✓).
“Any other account bearing his name or photograph should be treated as fraudulent,” the statement added.
The Service advised members of the public to report and block the fake account, avoid engaging with or responding to messages from the impersonator, and refrain from sending money or disclosing personal information to individuals claiming to represent the Nigeria Customs Service on social media.
