The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken approximately 300 people into custody following raids on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across Abuja.
The operation was carried out on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of the command’s efforts to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and strengthen security across the nation’s capital.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation targeted locations identified as potential criminal hideouts across various parts of the territory.
According to the police, officers recovered knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs during the raids.
The approximately 300 people taken into custody are undergoing screening and profiling to establish their identities and determine whether any of them are linked to criminal activities. Police said individuals found to have committed offences would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, while those found to have no case to answer would be released after the screening process.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the command would continue with intelligence-led raids and proactive policing, particularly in areas identified through intelligence as possible hideouts for criminals.
Sanusi also warned residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, saying substance abuse could impair judgment and contribute to violent or criminal behaviour.
He urged people experiencing drug-related problems to seek counselling and rehabilitation support.
The commissioner further directed officers involved in the operations to conduct themselves professionally and within the law. He specifically warned personnel against using raids and arrests as opportunities for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, saying officers found engaging in such conduct would face disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command has also appealed to residents to provide credible and timely information about suspicious activities and locations suspected to be used as criminal hideouts.
