Residents who attended an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign activity in Kano State have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the amount allegedly given to them for participating in the political mobilisation.
In a video circulating on social media, some participants were heard complaining that they received only N3,000 after travelling to the campaign venue.
One of the residents said some participants had to borrow money to cover their transport fares to attend the event.
“If you people keep giving us N3,000 for APC campaign, we won’t come out again. Some of us borrowed transport fare to come to the campaign ground, and they are only paying us N3,000.”
The complaint has sparked discussions online about the financial inducements allegedly offered to supporters at political rallies as parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The allegation comes amid growing political activity in Kano, with APC leaders already putting campaign structures in place ahead of the 2027 elections. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin recently unveiled a Kano North APC campaign council and charged members with taking the party’s campaign to communities across the senatorial district.
The latest complaint also follows a separate report from September 1 in which APC supporters in another campaign-related event allegedly complained after receiving N1,500 each for a full day’s participation. The supporters said they had spent hours walking, dancing and campaigning before receiving the money.
The claims contained in the Kano video could not independently be verified, including the identity of the organisers of the particular campaign event or whether the N3,000 payment was officially authorised by the APC campaign organisers.
Nevertheless, the complaints highlight concerns surrounding the practice of mobilising supporters with cash payments during political campaigns, particularly as parties intensify grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
