The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant operational gains in separate operations in Kogi and Rivers States, leading to the rescue of 13 kidnapped victims and the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers.
In a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy said the operations underscore its growing impact through intelligence-led action, rapid response and effective inter-agency cooperation.
In Kogi State, the Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante personnel, rescued 13 kidnapped victims along the Itobe–Anyigba Highway in Ofu Local Government Area on 10 August 2026.
The coordinated search and rescue operation was mounted following a reported kidnapping incident. The victims were subsequently placed under the care of relevant security authorities for screening and necessary assistance.
During the operation, the joint team encountered resistance from suspected kidnappers. Regrettably, one vigilante personnel lost his life, while a police officer sustained a gunshot injury and was evacuated for medical attention.
Security operations have since been intensified in the general area as efforts continue to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In Rivers State, personnel of Forward Operating Base Bonny, working with the NDLEA Bonny Area Command, arrested six suspected drug peddlers during an intelligence-driven operation at Amahausa in Bonny Local Government Area.
The operation also led to the recovery of various illicit substances, including:
– 250 tablets of Exol 5
– 117 wraps of Cannabis Sativa
– 50 wraps of methamphetamine
– 70 wraps of heroin
– 8 capsules of 100mg Tramadol
– 3 packs of Cannabis Sativa
– 1 methamphetamine pipe
The Navy stated that the two operations demonstrate the Service’s commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action, protecting lives and supporting broader national efforts to strengthen security across Nigeria’s communities and maritime environment.
