The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its ongoing Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following strong demand from Nigerians seeking passport services.
The exercise, initially scheduled to end on September 19, is being conducted at intervention centres in London and Manchester. The NIS said the extension was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to provide additional capacity and enable more eligible Nigerians to access the service.
According to the Service, 1,477 Nigerians were successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the exercise, while more than half of those applicants had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.
The NIS said the exercise was progressing smoothly at the London and Manchester centres despite some initial challenges encountered on the first day.
Eligible applicants seeking to participate in the intervention are required to book appointments through the official website of the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom and attend their scheduled appointments with the necessary documents.
Applicants are expected to present their completed passport application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope for passport delivery.
The Immigration Service also stressed that the application and payment process is fully automated and strictly cashless. It warned applicants against making unofficial payments or dealing with individuals offering to facilitate the process outside the approved channels.
The NIS stated that the applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity passport booklet, with no additional fee required simply to participate in the special intervention exercise.
Further information on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures will be communicated through the official channels of the NIS and the Nigeria High Commission in the UK.
The Service thanked Nigerians in the United Kingdom for their patience and cooperation, saying the extension reflects its commitment to providing more efficient and accessible passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
The extension is expected to give applicants who were unable to secure appointments or complete their applications within the original intervention period additional time to access the service.
