Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that the administration lacks the capacity and commitment required to address Nigeria’s challenges.
Obi made the remarks on Monday in Abuja during activities marking the inauguration of the NDC’s national campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Today, President Tinubu has led us with a government that lacks competence, capacity, compassion and commitment to deal with Nigeria’s problems,” Obi said.
He added that the country needed a president who would be available and actively respond to emergencies, particularly amid continuing insecurity and mass kidnappings.
“We need him to go home. Nigeria cannot be governed with the energy he has today. Nigeria needs a president who will be available and present,” Obi said.
Referring to reports of mass abductions, Obi argued that national leaders should demonstrate direct commitment to resolving security crises and ensuring the safe return of victims.
The former Anambra State governor also accused the Tinubu administration of failing to deliver adequate results on poverty, unemployment and corruption. He questioned the government’s record and called for a change in leadership, saying Nigerians were seeking an alternative.
Obi further warned against electoral manipulation ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the NDC would oppose attempts to undermine the voting process. He called for free, fair and credible elections and pledged that his party would campaign across the country.
