President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 cash reward promise to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they secured a record-extending 10th continental title.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, that the players had begun receiving the naira equivalent of the promised $100,000 each, estimated at approximately ₦140 million per player.

Members of the team’s technical crew are also entitled to $50,000 each under the presidential reward package.

The payment fulfils the cash component of the commitment Tinubu announced when he hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on July 28, 2025, following their triumph in Morocco.

The Super Falcons produced a remarkable comeback in the final, recovering from a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 and claim their 10th African women’s football championship.

As part of the original reward package, Tinubu approved the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each of the 24 players and $50,000 for each member of the technical team. He also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the team and approved three-bedroom apartments in Abuja for the players and officials.

The players had previously received their national honours and housing allocation documents, leaving the cash reward as the outstanding component of the presidential promise.

Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, expressed appreciation to Tinubu for fulfilling his commitment, describing the payment as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, also commended the President, saying the fulfilment of the promise demonstrated the government’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence.

He noted that some Nigerian athletes had previously waited years for promised rewards, adding that the latest development demonstrated that such commitments could be honoured without prolonged delays.

The development follows a similar reward package fulfilled for Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, after their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.

The NSC said the government’s continued support for athletes was part of efforts to strengthen sports development, improve athlete welfare and promote Nigeria’s sports economy.
