The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, prompting further investigations and public health surveillance.

In an update issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the agency said both individuals had been isolated, while contact identification and listing were ongoing. Laboratory tests are also being conducted to determine whether they have contracted the virus.

The NCDC cautioned that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases should not be interpreted as confirmation of Ebola infection, stressing that only laboratory results can establish their status.

The agency has not disclosed the specific states where the suspected cases were identified. It is also not yet clear whether the cases are connected to Nigeria’s earlier confirmed infection.

The development comes 11 days after Nigeria confirmed an imported case of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the Federal Capital Territory. The patient, who had travelled from Uganda, was subsequently evacuated to Switzerland on October 26 for further medical care.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities. Members of the public are also advised to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.

The agency said further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available. Its toll-free public health line is 6232.
