Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has used the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to showcase the state’s investment opportunities and seek greater interest from local and international investors.

Fubara, who is part of the Nigerian delegation to UNGA 81, said on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, that his participation was aimed at giving Rivers State greater visibility and presenting its economic potential to the global business community.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York, the governor highlighted Rivers’ strategic position in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry while pointing to opportunities in other sectors of the state’s economy.

Fubara said the international gathering provides an opportunity to engage prospective investors and development finance institutions on business and financing opportunities in the state.

He explained that the state was seeking to use the UNGA platform and related meetings to present opportunities to investors with an interest in Rivers’ oil and gas resources and other areas of its economy.

The governor said the investment campaign was consistent with his administration’s efforts to create structures for attracting and facilitating investment, particularly through the establishment of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency (RSIPA).

RSIPA was established to provide a platform for investors to explore opportunities in Rivers State and facilitate investment-related processes. The agency describes its role as helping to attract investments and support economic growth in the state.

Beyond oil and gas, Fubara identified agriculture, the blue economy, manufacturing and renewable energy among the sectors being presented to potential investors.

He also described Rivers State as open for business and said the state would use its participation at the global gathering to pursue partnerships and financing opportunities.

The governor expressed optimism that the engagements would generate new investment opportunities for Rivers State, although he did not announce any specific investment agreement resulting from the meetings at the time of his remarks.

Fubara’s investment pitch comes as several Nigerian state governors are participating in the country’s delegation to UNGA 81, using the international gathering to engage development partners, investors and other stakeholders.

The 81st UN General Assembly is bringing world leaders and representatives together in New York for discussions on global development, security, economic cooperation and other international issues.

For Rivers State, the governor’s participation is being used to complement the state’s domestic investment-promotion efforts by placing its economic opportunities before an international audience.
