President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to translate their political mobilisation into votes, warning that the party’s work cannot be considered complete until it delivers electoral results.

Tinubu gave the charge on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Addressing party leaders and campaign officials, the President stressed the importance of delivering results at the grassroots, including in wards, as the ruling party prepares to seek another presidential mandate.

“No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. Until you deliver the next election; until you deliver your wards. Until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you, and I will thank you very much,” Tinubu said.

The remarks placed electoral performance at the centre of the council’s responsibilities, with party officials expected to coordinate campaign activities and build support for the President’s re-election bid.

The inauguration marks a key step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election. The party had earlier announced plans to inaugurate the council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, with Tinubu serving as its chairman.

The campaign structure brings together party officials, serving governors, federal lawmakers, political appointees and other stakeholders tasked with coordinating mobilisation, communications and election planning across the country.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, is serving as Director-General of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma is its secretary. Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda are among the senior figures holding leadership positions in the campaign structure.

The APC has also included several political figures from outside its traditional campaign leadership in its revised council list, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. Their inclusion reflects the party’s effort to assemble a broad political network ahead of the election.

The council is expected to coordinate campaign messaging, state-level mobilisation, media engagement and collaboration between party leaders and local political structures. Its effectiveness will depend in part on how successfully the national campaign plan is implemented at state, local government and ward levels.

Nigeria’s presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the revised timetable announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The timetable followed changes to the country’s electoral framework and the adjustment of election dates.

Tinubu’s directive comes as political parties begin organising their structures ahead of the campaign period. For the APC, the task will involve defending its record in government while persuading voters to support another term amid public debate over the economy, security and the cost of living.

The President’s comments also underline the significance of grassroots organisation in Nigeria’s electoral system, where ward-level networks play a major role in voter engagement and party mobilisation. However, the ability of any party to mobilise supporters does not by itself determine the outcome of an election, which ultimately depends on votes cast and the official results declared by INEC.

The APC campaign council will now be expected to coordinate its activities as the party prepares for the election. Tinubu’s message was clear: the measure of the campaign team’s performance will be the electoral results it helps the party achieve.
