Late Deaconess Mrs. Celestina Malechi Obu-Igbodo was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by faith in God, humility, dedication to service, and unconditional love for her family and humanity.
Born on March 1, 1965, in Obior, Delta State, Nigeria, to the family of the late Pa Dominic Isicher, she grew up with strong moral values that shaped her into an exceptional wife, mother, church leader, and public servant.
She began her educational journey at Aniemeka Primary School, Onicha-Ugbo, before proceeding to Okpalani Secondary School, Okpanam.
Determined to broaden her knowledge and acquire professional skills, she enrolled in a Business School, where she studied Shorthand and Secretarial Studies, laying the foundation for a successful career in the public service.
Her humility, simplicity, and diligence earned her employment with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in Benin City, Edo State, where she served as an Accountant.
Her commitment to excellence and integrity later opened the door to a new opportunity with the Federal Ministry of Works in the former Bendel State, where she served as a Secretary to the Comptroller.
Her outstanding work ethic, calm disposition, and dedication earned her numerous commendations and the admiration of colleagues.
In her quest for continuous growth, she furthered her professional development at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Lagos.
Throughout her career, she remained hardworking, proactive, compassionate, and dependable. She later served in the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where she faithfully discharged her duties until illness forced her to retire from active service in 2015.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Obu-Igbodo was a devoted Christian who served God wholeheartedly as a Deaconess and a respected mother in the church.
She was known for her generosity, peaceful nature, and willingness to help others without expecting anything in return.
Her home was a place of love, warmth, encouragement, and prayer, touching countless lives with kindness and compassion.
As a devoted wife to the late Honourable Ephraim Olou, she exemplified unwavering commitment to family life.
She was a loving and caring mother to Blessing, Solomon, Ifeanyi, and Tobe, nurturing them with wisdom, discipline, faith, and unconditional love.
On May 13, 2026, she peacefully answered the Master’s call, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
To her children, especially her daughter, Debby, she was far more than a mother. She was a teacher, mentor, confidant, prayer warrior, and the family’s greatest pillar of strength.
Through every season of life, she stood firmly by her children, encouraging them to trust God, remain humble, persevere through challenges, and always extend kindness to others.
Her sacrifices, selflessness, and unwavering devotion shaped the lives of those privileged to know her.
Though her passing has left an irreplaceable void, the memories of her gentle smile, wise counsel, steadfast faith, and boundless love remain a priceless treasure.
Today, her family celebrates not only a life well lived but also a legacy built on service, compassion, faith, and integrity.
Though she is no longer physically present, her influence continues to live on in the hearts of her children, family members, friends, church, and all whose lives she touched.
