Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente has been named Men’s Coach of the Year at the 2026 Ballon d’Or awards after guiding his country to victory at the FIFA World Cup.

The 65-year-old received the honour at a ceremony at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, capping a successful period in charge of Spain’s senior national team.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on July 19, securing the country’s second world title. The victory followed Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024 and the 2023 UEFA Nations League.

De la Fuente credited his players for the achievement, highlighting their teamwork and willingness to put the collective interest ahead of individual recognition.

“Teamwork makes us invincible. This is a great honour,” he said after receiving the award.

He added that Spain’s depth of talent and the players’ commitment had been central to the team’s success.

De la Fuente took charge of Spain’s senior team in December 2022 after years working within the country’s youth coaching system. He previously led Spain’s Under-19 and Under-21 teams, helping develop players who later became key members of the senior squad.

His latest recognition adds an individual honour to a period marked by major international success for Spanish football.
