The Delta State government has set aside $100 million, approximately N133.8 billion, as viability gap funding to de-risk new investments in the state.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced this at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 held in Asaba, the state capital.
Governor Oborevwori also announced that the state government has earmarked over 12,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development for prospective investors.
According to him, the agro-industrialisation plan of his administration provides ample opportunities for profitable private sector investments in commercial agriculture and the agricultural value chain.
“Investment opportunities abound in the value chain production of cassava, oil palm, rice, potato, and other cash crops. It is my pleasure to announce that in preparation for this summit, over 12,000 hectares of farmland have been marked for agricultural development for prospective investors. And in addition, the entire state has a coastline of one to three kilometers suitable for development of a thriving marine economy,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori assured investors of the safety of their investments, saying security has improved significantly in Delta State.
“Indeed, our investment in the security sector has boosted morale among security personnel and local communities, improved trust between security forces and residents, and created a safer environment for economic and social activities. It might interest you to know that Delta State was adjudged the safest state for oil and gas investment in Nigeria in 2024 by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. This is an overwhelming vote of confidence in the state as an investor’s heaven.
“Mr. Vice President, as I conclude my address, I am pleased to announce that the government has set aside 100 million dollars, approximately 133,800,000,000, as viability gap funding to de-risk new investments in the states.
“This one we are not borrowing. We are not going to borrow the money. The money is there. This is a practical demonstration of our total commitment to ensuring that the agreements reached at this summit are executed without delay,” he said.
