Guinness World Records has officially recognised Dapper Live & Artists for setting the record for the largest orchestra at an Afrobeats concert, with 85 musicians performing together in Lagos.
The record was achieved on 16 December 2025 during the Trench Symphony, The Dapper Live Experience, held at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos. Although the performance took place last year, Guinness World Records completed its verification process before announcing the certification in early July 2026.
According to Guinness World Records, the performance featured an orchestra of 85 musicians led by a conductor, alongside a lead singer, an accompanying choir and dancers, all performing a specially arranged Afrobeats composition.
The organisation described the event as a live orchestral performance that demonstrated how Afrobeats and orchestral music can be seamlessly blended, bringing together musicians and audiences in a dynamic and celebratory showcase.
The record-setting concert was organised by Dapper Live & Artists, a Nigerian entertainment company led by music executive Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi. The production, titled Trench Symphony, The Dapper Live Experience, combined Afrobeats, Fuji music and classical orchestral arrangements in an ambitious celebration of Nigerian music and culture.
The event featured performances from Fuji stars King Saheed Osupa and KS1 Malaika, alongside Afrobeats acts including T.I Blaze, Rybeena, Bhadboi OML, Kashcoming, TML Vibez, Lasmid, Heis Cazulee and Dwillsharmony.
Following the certification, Dapper Live & Artists celebrated the achievement on social media, stating, “We didn’t just stage a concert. We rewrote the record books. Culture. Precision. History.”
The certification followed Guinness World Records’ standard review and verification process, with organisers previously announcing that the attempt had successfully undergone assessment before the official recognition was made public.
The achievement establishes a new global benchmark for the largest orchestra assembled for an Afrobeats concert. Guinness World Records has not identified any previous holder of the title, making the Nigerian production the inaugural record in the category.
The event showed how Afrobeats is evolving, mixing different musical styles while highlighting the energy and creativity of Nigeria’s modern music scene.
Afrobeats concerts in Nigeria are becoming larger and more theatrical, with artistes increasingly using live orchestras, choirs, dancers, and elaborate stage productions to create immersive performances.
The likes of Asake, Davido and Adekunle Gold have also thrilled their audiences with stellar orchestral performances. The trend reflects Afrobeats’ global growth and the push to deliver world-class live shows.
The global rise of Afrobeats traces its lineage to the ‘Afrobeat’ movement pioneered by Fela Kuti, whose politically charged fusion of jazz and highlife laid the cultural foundation for today’s modern pop sound.
Over the years, the genre has evolved into a global export championed by acts such as D’banj, Timaya, Wizkid, Davido and Tiwa Savage.
A newer generation, including Tems, Burna Boy, Rema, Asake and Ayra Starr, has further expanded its reach under the “Afrobeats to the World” movement, earning international recognition and major award wins.
