Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006.
The 74-year-old Weinstein was sentenced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber, following his conviction at a retrial last year.
The sentence brings another major development in a case that has gone through multiple trials and appeals since Weinstein was first convicted in New York in 2020.
Weinstein was originally sentenced to 23 years after being convicted of sexually assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann. In April 2024, New York’s highest court overturned the conviction and ordered a new trial, ruling that the original proceedings had been prejudiced by testimony concerning allegations that were not part of the charges being tried.
At the 2025 retrial, a jury again found Weinstein guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley. Jurors acquitted him of a separate sexual assault charge involving Kaja Sokola but could not reach a verdict on the rape charge involving Mann. A subsequent retrial of that charge ended in another mistrial in May 2026, after which prosecutors dropped the case when Mann said she did not want to testify in another trial.
During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, Weinstein addressed the court and expressed regret while continuing to deny that he had sexually assaulted anyone. His defence had sought a shorter sentence, citing his age and health problems.
Haley also addressed the court before sentencing, describing the long-term impact of the assault and the subsequent legal proceedings. After the sentence was handed down, she said she considered the 15-year term fair.
Weinstein’s legal troubles are not limited to New York. He was separately convicted in California in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and received a 16-year sentence. A California appeals court upheld those convictions in June 2026 but ordered a new sentencing proceeding because the original sentence had taken his since-overturned New York convictions into account.
The Weinstein cases became closely associated with the #MeToo movement after numerous women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct beginning in 2017. Weinstein has denied the broader allegations against him.
His spokesman said Weinstein maintains his innocence and plans to appeal the latest New York sentence.
