The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reviewed its policy on registered phone numbers and email addresses, allowing candidates who have lost access to their original contact details to update them through a controlled process.

The Board announced the policy change on Monday, September 21, 2026, saying the new arrangement was introduced to assist candidates who can no longer access the GSM numbers or email accounts linked to their JAMB profiles.

Under the revised policy, eligible candidates can change their registered GSM number, email address, or both. However, the service is available only once per candidate.

JAMB said the process would be subject to strict identity and biometric verification to protect candidates’ records and prevent impersonation, fraud and unauthorised changes.

The service is available only at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, including Professional Test Centres, Professional Registration Centres and State Offices where applicable.

The Board had previously restricted SIM swaps and changes to registered email addresses because of security concerns associated with unauthorised alterations to candidates’ records. It said the policy review followed the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures.

JAMB urged candidates seeking to use the service to do so only through authorised centres and warned them against using unauthorised individuals or unofficial channels.

The Board stressed that the one-time facility is intended for genuine cases involving candidates who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or email accounts.

The service commenced on September 21, 2026, according to the Board.

Candidates are therefore advised to ensure that any replacement phone number or email address they provide is active and accessible, given that the update can only be made once.
