Social media commentator VeryDarkMan has criticised Apostle Arome Osayi over his emphasis on spiritual revival, arguing that Nigerians should complement prayer with technological innovation, scientific research and practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

VeryDarkMan made the comments while reacting to remarks attributed to Arome about Nigeria’s calling being centred on revival. In a video circulating online, the social media personality questioned what he described as an excessive emphasis on prayer when technological solutions are available to address many physical and social problems.

He used medical treatment as one of his examples, arguing that advances in medicine have enabled doctors to manage diseases that previously had limited treatment options. He said relying exclusively on prayer without developing practical solutions would not have produced many of the technologies and medical interventions people use today.

VeryDarkMan also directed his argument at technology and innovation, pointing to computers, telecommunications equipment, vehicles and the internet as examples of products created through scientific research and engineering.

He argued that Nigerians should develop their own capacity to create technologies rather than merely depending on products and expertise developed elsewhere.

“Let me show you what technology can do,” VeryDarkMan said while making the argument, before contrasting technological intervention with what he described as relying solely on prayer for physical problems.

He further argued that Nigerians have the intellectual capacity to develop solutions but need to channel more attention and resources towards innovation, research and creativity.

“It is this kind of preaching that puts Nigeria where it is today,” he said in another part of his response, according to reports on the controversy. VeryDarkMan also accused religious institutions of contributing to what he sees as the country’s developmental challenges by encouraging people to wait for miracles rather than develop practical solutions.

His comments came after Arome’s recent preaching activities, during which the cleric has continued to speak about prayer, spiritual revival and what he describes as “spiritual technology after the order of the Holy Ghost.” Arome’s official website carried those themes in material published around September 25, 2026.

Arome is the founder and leader of Remnant Christian Network. According to the organisation’s official website, his ministry combines what it describes as apostolic Christianity with a marketplace mandate.

VeryDarkMan’s criticism extends beyond the role of prayer. He questioned the balance between religious activities and investment in science, engineering and technological development, particularly in a country where many modern technologies are imported.

He also referenced Nigerians who travel abroad to learn about new technologies and people supporting efforts to bring technical expertise into Nigeria, arguing that such efforts could help build domestic capacity.

The exchange has generated discussion online about the relationship between faith and technological development in Nigeria. VeryDarkMan’s position is that prayer and faith should not replace human responsibility, research and innovation, while Arome’s recent messages have placed a strong emphasis on spiritual revival and prayer.

The debate also touches on a broader question facing Nigeria: how religious belief, scientific education, technological innovation and economic development can coexist in efforts to address the country’s challenges.

VeryDarkMan’s comments should be understood as his personal criticism of Arome’s position rather than an established assessment of the role of religion in Nigeria’s development. There was no indication in the reports reviewed that Arome had issued a direct response to VeryDarkMan’s latest remarks.
