The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 governorship election, with the party’s candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, unveiling a seven-point development agenda for the state.
The campaign was formally flagged off on Wednesday at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta, where thousands of PDP supporters, party leaders and residents from across the state gathered despite heavy rainfall.
Adebutu was accompanied by his running mate, Yemi Showunmi-Kolapo, and other party leaders, including former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo. Supporters had earlier gathered at the party secretariat before proceeding in a procession to the campaign venue.
Addressing the gathering, Adebutu presented his campaign blueprint, titled “A Call to Liberation,” and unveiled a seven-point agenda tagged “ITURA DE,” which he described as a roadmap for the socio-economic transformation of Ogun State.
The agenda focuses on local government autonomy and workers’ welfare; security and law enforcement; urban and regional development; rural and border community development; agriculture, economic and industrial growth; women, youth and sports development; as well as education, healthcare and other social services.
Adebutu pledged to prioritise the welfare of workers, ensure prompt payment of retirement benefits and pursue policies aimed at creating jobs, reducing poverty and strengthening the state’s economy.
He also promised to restore what he described as genuine local government autonomy, arguing that stronger grassroots governance would improve economic activity and service delivery across the state.
According to the PDP candidate, the party’s proposed administration would focus on good governance, accountability and transparency while creating an environment that supports businesses and economic growth.
Adebutu also criticised successive administrations under the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of presiding over what he described as years of hardship, poor governance and economic difficulties.
He urged Ogun voters to consider the PDP as an alternative in the 2027 election and called on supporters to protect their votes throughout the electoral process.
The campaign marks a significant step in the PDP’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the Ogun governorship election, with the party expected to take its campaign to other parts of the state in the months ahead.
The PDP’s flag-off comes as political activities intensify across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties increasingly presenting their candidates, programmes and policy proposals to voters.
For the PDP, Adebutu’s campaign will now seek to translate the “ITURA DE” agenda into a broader electoral message centred on economic relief, improved public services, local governance and accountability.
