The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has said it is targeting Nigeria’s informal sector to secure the participation of the nation’s largest group of workers in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The Director-General of PenCom, Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran, stated this at the Commission’s 2026 Media Conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The conference, themed “From Reform To Reality: Renewed Hope, Pension Security For Nigerians,” brought together media professionals and key stakeholders to promote public awareness and highlight the quantum leap in Nigeria’s pension industry.
Oloworaran said the informal sector accounts for about 92 percent of the nation’s workforce and must be included in the pension reform for it to be considered successful.
She said the Commission is committed to deepening pension reforms, improving regulatory oversight and ensuring that the CPS continues to deliver greater security and confidence to Nigerians.
Highlights of the conference included the announcement and official launch of the National Pension Week 2026 website, http://www.npw.ng, and the unveiling of the 2026 PenCom Excellence Awards for deserving journalists in the print, online and broadcast media.
Earlier, PenCom held a similar event in Lagos with key moments including the launch of the PenCom Chronicles Magazine and awards to three journalists.
